London Zine Symposium 2009

London Zine Symposium 2009

Thursday | April 30th, 2009

I’ve completely neglected this site for at least nine months now. That’ll be changing in the nearer future. In the interim I’m helping to organise the London Zine Symposium (www.londonzinesymposium.org.uk). I’ll be there with comics and zines including these handcut mini-comix about the horror of Ikea, and the Buffy obsession. Each one has a handcut cover. I’ve also reprinted my comic about Gaza, as well as Hey Monkey Riot #3 and #2. There’ll also be the new Hey Monkey Riot #4 - ‘the wedding invitation’. I’ve screenprinted an envelope, which it’s bound into. It looks awesome!

In ten days time I’m off to Poitiers for the 20th anniversary of La Fanzinotheque (www.fanzino.org). It’s going to be great.

Comiket & Comica 2008

November 11th, 2008

From Last Hours

Comica, London’s annual international comics festival, is happening again from the 14th - 26th November. The event, organised by Paul Gravett, has always bought together some of the finest talent both from the underground and independent comic scenes, but also more mainstream creators too. 2008 seems to be no exception with some excellent talks and presentations happening over the two weeks at both the ICA and V&A in London. For more details on the festival visit the Comica website.

This year has also seen the small press event that Comica hosts expand with the help of London Underground Comics. The Comiket event is happening on Saturday 22nd November from 1pm – 7pm in the Nash & Brandon rooms in the ICA. There’ll be a number of self-published comics and zines including stuff from people involved with Last Hours (Isy, Edd, Gavin Burrows and Marc Ellerby).

Central St Martins MA Communication Design exhibition

June 7th, 2008

Hey Monkey Riot postcard (Detail of six colour screenprint - see portfolio for more details!)So, as I mention too often on here I’m currently doing an MA at Central St Martins. The good news is I’ve had my final hand in, and its just the exhibition left.

Its happening at the Mall Galleries (map)
on the Mall, between Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace (very posh!).

Its happening from Friday 13th June to Thursday 19th June, and open 12pm-5pm each day. Its gonna be pretty cool. There’s a preview of some of the work (including screenprinting stuff of mine) up on the MA Communication Design website. Or specifically just go straight to the illustration section: http://www.macommunicationdesign.com/projects/pathway/Illustration#

Last Hours 17

April 11th, 2008

Last Hours 17The new issue of Last Hours is out now. Its very good, and if you haven’t bought a copy you should! It features a new 2 page Hey Monkey Riot comic. Its 116 pages long with interviews, articles, reviews, comix and artwork celebrating punk rock, radical culture and DIY. Check out http://www.lasthours.org.uk for full details.

[in other unrelated news my FTP server is being weird which is why the site hasn’t had a new comics for a couple of days]

Hey Monkey Riot autumn

January 28th, 2008

Hey Monkey riot autumn
A hand screen printed (3 colour) cover and over 90 pages. Hey Monkey Riot autumn collects all the online comics from September through November in its own zine. I’ve only printed up 50 of these so get them while they’re about because if Hey Monkey Riot #1 is anything to go by 50 copies don’t last long. You can buy a copy through the fancy new Last Hours shop (which has just gone online!) at http://www.lasthours.org.uk/shop/

No comics this weekend

January 4th, 2008

 The comics are now online!

Hey, just to say that the comics for Thursday (3rd), Friday (4th), Saturday (5th) and Sunday (6th) are all going to have to be posted on Monday as I have to catch a train in ten minutes for Devon, and won’t have a scanner till I get home on Monday.

New Hey Monkey Riot website

December 11th, 2007

So I pretty much have this site up and running. It doesn’t really have all the features I want, and it needs to be better integrated into the Last Hours website (www.lasthours.org.uk) but other than that I think its a distinct improvement on the old Hey Monkey Riot website.

Hey Monkey Riot issue 3

December 10th, 2007

Hey Monkey Riot issue 3Hey Monkey Riot is out now. It’s awesome. It details the shambolic attempts at shutting down the G8 in North Eastern Germany when the leaders of the world’s ‘richest’ countries came together to chat about how to further their interests. Its autobiographical to the extent that it details my visit to Germany and some of the blockades I take part in, and the camp I was staying at!

Hey Monkey Riot #3 available to buy through the website for £1.70.

Also available at GOSH comics, All Ages Records, 56a Infoshop and through Active Distribution.

You can see a Preview of it here. And Hey Monkey Riot #2 can now be downloaded through the website here.
